What is “requester-pay enabled”? Why does Xena use this?
“Requester-pay enabled” means that you pay for the cost of transferring the data from xena S3 to your computer outside AWS. Transferring data within AWS is free if you want to do your analysis on Amazon. For more information: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/dev/RequesterPaysBuckets.html.
Why does Xena use “requester-pay enabled”?
Our grant funding supports the storing of high-quality cancer genomics data. However, we can not afford free data transfer out of S3 (cost is $90 per 1TB). We will continue to monitor the cost associated with providing high-quality cancer genomics data and re-evaluate our decision on a month-by-month basis.
